Tips For When You’re Sick
Cold and flu season is just around the corner and all the ickies will be in full force. Doesn’t it feel like we’ve been in a constant cold and flu season for 2 years?! Regardless of the virus we typically do the same things to help our immune system with variations as needed. I am also going to include protocols we would follow for covid-19. So let’s chat about tips for when you’re feeling sick. I first want to say this is in no way medical advice. Alway consult with your healthcare practitioner. These are the things I would do for our family and what I have experience with.
Prevention tips
The best intervention is always preventions but with viruses complete avoidance isn’t possible. God created our bodies to get sick and gave us immune systems that know what they are doing. Unfortunately our bodies are bombarded with so many toxins from our world that our immune system needs a little help. What is also amazing is that God also gave us so many plants with medicinal properties to help us when needed. I am a nurse and believe modern medicine can be life saving and has its place and time but is often over and improperly used.
Living a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis keeps our bodies strong and ready to fight an illness when it invades. Clean water, we use a Berkey Filter. Clean air, we use the Air Doctor. Whole unprocessed food is imperative to keep your body functioning at a high level, especially when sick. Minimizing toxins from daily products that place a toxic burden on the body. When the body is bombarded with toxins it can’t focus on attacking a virus and healing.
Supplements

Quality supplements are one of the most important things to have on hand when you an illness strikes. I have spent years researching companies that use pure ingredients without added fillers. I’m going to list the supplements we take when we are sick. This is not medical advice, I am sharing what has worked for us. Always consult your medical provider with questions. I will list the dosages we use as adults. Our kids will get smaller doses. This may be different to you.
- Vitamin D3 + K2 2,000-5,000 IU (critical that you have K2 for proper absorption of vitamin D) also go outside and get sun on your skin as much as possible.
- Zinc 25-30mg (we take a combo of zinc and quercetin from Wild Wholistic Sisters)
- Vitamin C 2,000-5,000 IU separated throughout the day (high dose, we use liposomal when sick because it is highly bioavailable)
- Elderberry Syrup (I have made my own for years)
- Magnesium
- Leefy (ginger, tumeric and curcumin tonic)
- Thieves and oregano essential oil (applied topically and diffused)
- Probiotic
- Inner Defense (for kids I would pop a hole and dilute it and rub down their spine an bottoms of feet)
Covid-19 specific
- Quercetin 250mg twice a day. Crucial to drive zinc into cells
- Asprin 325mg daily *always talk to your doctor before taking aspirin
- Melatonin 6-10mg before bed
- Hydrogen Peroxide Nebulizer Treatment (you will need food grade hydrogen peroxide and sterile saline for the machine). This is the protocol I would follow.
Ivermectin
We would without a doubt feel comfortable taking Ivermectin if we had covid. It has been around for decades and before this all became the disaster it is was touted as a “wonder drug” alongside penicillin and aspirin being two that have perhaps had greatest beneficial impact on the health and wellbeing of Mankind. The vilification of this medication is politically and financially motivated. Bottom line it is safe and effective. We would follow this protocol for dosing.
I got our months ago from the Medici app. A doctor prescribed it and a pharmacy filled it. Things are different now and a lot of pharmacies aren’t filling it. There are ways to get it without a prescription because in other countries it doesn’t require one. There are also many pharmacies listed HERE that will fill your prescription. That list also includes pharmacies to get it without a prescription.

Detox baths
We regularly take detox baths a couple times a month but take them daily when sick. Sweating is a mechanism of detox so taking a hot bath is beneficial. A contraindication would be if someone has a fever. We still take detox baths if we have a fever but with luke warm water instead of hot. To a bathtub add 1/2 cup epsom salt (make sure that is the only ingredient), 1/4-1/2 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. Soak for 20-30 minutes making sure to drink large amounts of water during and after to flush the toxins out.
Food
Limit processed sugar. Viruses feed off sugar so you want to starve them of their energy source. Lots of whole foods that are easily digested. High water content foods and broths are great. Don’t force food when sick, your body is trying to heal. Digestion is one of the most energy zapping things your body does. Smoothies, juices and soups are a favorite of ours when we are under the weather because they are easy on digestion.
Rest when you’re sick
I think this is an obvious but our society is so go go go so I’m going to remind you to REST! Get plenty of sleep so your body has time and energy to repair itself. I have always tried to prioritize rest for my kids especially when they are sick or run down. This is one of the most important tips for when you’re sick.
