The crisp fall air, an apple orchard stroll, PSL latte, marshmallows by the fire, a warm mug of apple cider, those just a few of my favorite scents of fall! Each morning while the coffee is brewing the first thing I do is start my diffusers. This is the time of year I want our home to smell amazing! If you read my last post on homemade beeswax candles you’ll know how toxic conventional candles and plug ins are. I used to be a Bath and Body Works and Yankee candle junkie until I realized how detrimental inhaling their fumes were to our health. Friends there is a better way! I’m going to share the 10 best essential oil diffuser recipes for fall which just happen to be some of my most favorite blends. These blends aren’t just for fall they carry into the winter months as well!

Benefits of diffusing essential oils
On top of making your home smell amazing pure essential oils have added health benefits. They have a positive impact on the immune system, the skin, emotions, behaviors, pain, etc. We have used essential oils for almost 10 years and have seen many positive changes. They give us focus during homeschool, immune support, soothe sore throats, relieve head tension, stress relief, provide seasonal allergy support, promote restful sleep and help support our skin. Those are just a few of our favorite ways we use essential oils. There are literally hundreds of possibilities with oils.

Ways to use essential oils
There are three ways to use essential oils, aromatically, topically and internally. Today we are going to focus on aromatically using oils. Diffusing essential oils is the easiest and best way to get them into your system quickly. When you smell an essential oil it can reach your blood stream within minutes. How cool is that?! Makes you want to ditch those artificial fragrance even more now huh?
How to diffuse essential oils
One of my favorite ways to use essential oils is in an ultrasonic diffuser. With diffusers you add essential oils and water to the reservoir. When turned on the water and oils marry together and a mist is created and is pushed out into the air. Distilled or filtered water is best to prevent build up on your diffusers and make them last longer but isn’t necessary. The amount of drops of each oil will depend on your room size and your personal preference on how strong you prefer the scent. For a large room 10-20 drops of essential oils will fill the room.
My favorite diffuser is the Aria diffuser from Young Living. It’s such a statement piece and doubles as beautiful home decor. You can get the Aria diffuser or any of the oils I’ve mentioned HERE. Another diffuser we have in our home is this inexpensive one from Amazon that has a large water reservoir, good output and can run for 12 hours with a variety of light settings. You do want to be careful with cheaper diffusers because citrus oils can break down the plastic over time if it’s not medical grade plastic.
Other ways to enjoy essential oil blends
While diffusing is my favorite way to use essential oils there are other options to get your home to smell amazing. Room sprays made with essential oils can replace toxic air fresheners. To make a room spray take a glass bottle and mix half distilled water, half vodka and add your essential oils. Shake well before each use. Water and oil naturally separate so the added alcohol helps the water and oils combine. It also weighs down the oils and keeps the scent stronger for a longer time.
Reed diffusers are another option. Mix together equal parts carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil is a great option) and vodka or rubbing alcohol. Add the drops of essential oil and the alcohol/carrier oil mixture to a glass container and place the reeds in the jar.

Make your own essential oil diffuser recipes
These wonderful essential oil diffuser recipes all compliment each other. I like to have different blends going in different rooms so I get a new scent as I walk around the house. The sky is the limit on mixing different oils together and I enjoy trying new combinations. You can’t really mess it up! For fall I like to use oils that have a spicy aroma and blend those with sweet or woodsy tones and mix in a citrus oil. If you find a great diffuser blend you love you can multiply the amount of drops by 5 or 10 and mix them all in an old oils bottle and make a diffuser bomb. This is a simple way to use your favorite essential oil diffuser recipes without having to get multiple oils each time.
I hope that gave you some fall inspiration to make your home feel cozy and inviting. If you have a great fall blend that you love please share it with me! Happy fall diffusing!
